Venetian glass has been made in Venice
since 450 AD. Venetian glass continues to flourish in Venice
through the work of artisans such as the Gambaro brothers:
the beauty of Venetian glass comes through by painting our
environment of marine reflections. The purity of Venetian
glass interacts continuously with natural and artificial
lighting creating a magical atmosphere. The Gambaro brothers,
young artisans who founded Gambarovetri in the 90's, were
not new to the craftsmanship required to create Venetian
glass from Venetian crystal: the Gambaro brothers
learned their skill from their father, a master glassmaker
with more than forty years of experience in this field. The
traditional skills and secrets for creating handsome coffee
tables, beautiful mirrors, and handicraft glasswork all in
Venetian glass are unique to the city of Venice, undisputed
home of master glassmakers and glass artists. A Glassmakers'
Guild was set in the thirteenth century and in 1292, in
order to protect the city from fire, an ordinance was passed
banishing glassmaking to the island of Murano. The Gambaro
brothers grew up in this beautiful city where Venetian
glass was born, and their creations reflect the legacy
they inherited as Venetians. |
